103rd Annual Boys and 36th Annual Girls OHSAA State Track and Field Championships

Division III

Two First-Time Winners Take Home Trophies in Division III
North Robinson Colonel Crawford and Versailles earn top honors.

Both the North Robinson Colonel Crawford boys and the Versailles girls took home their first OHSAA track and field state tournament trophies Saturday afternoon from Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium at The Ohio State University.

Amidst a day filled with rain, Colonel Crawford turned in three first-place finishes and totaled 41 points to edge out Louisville St. Thomas Aquinas’ 40 points in the Division III Boys State Track & Field Meet.

The Eagles were led by senior Isiah Kent, who earned 20 points after taking first in both the discus and the shot put. Kent’s mark of 193-03 in the discus bests both the Division III state and state meet records. Kent’s throw in the shot put of 60-06 ½ topped second place by more than four feet.

Colonel Crawford’s other first place finish came in the 1600m run thanks to senior Carson Britton, who finished in 4:15.76.

Louisville St. Thomas Aquinas’ one-point loss was the first for any boys team since Marion Pleasant lost the Division III title by one point to Yellow Springs in 1990. The Knights took home their best finish ever thanks to first place finishes in both the 4x800 and the 4x400 relays with times of 7:50.08 and 3:19.81 respectively.

Gahanna Columbus Academy finished off the Division III races with an impressive run in the 4x400 relay, setting a new state and state meet record with a time of 3:18.65.

In a reversal of the finish from 2009, Versailles topped Gates Mills Gilmour Academy after picking up 47.5 points en route to its first Division III girls track and field state championship.

Although Versailles earned only one first-place finish, the Tigers totaled nine top-eight finishers. Sophomore Tammy Berger was the only individual state champion forVersailles after she ran the 3200m in 11:08.21. Berger also took third place in the 1600m run with a time of 5:04.62.

Gilmour Academy was led by senior Rebekka Simko, who had a hand in all 36 of the Lancers points. She took first in the 800m run with a time of 2:12.61 and clocked in at 5:02.62 in the 1600m run, good enough for second place. Timko also ran on the first-place 4x800 and second-place 4x400 relay teams.

Steubenville Catholic Cental junior Teddi Jo Maslowski left her mark in the OHSAA record book after winning both the 100m and 300m hurdles. Maslowski's time of 14.44 in the 100m hurdles is a new Division III state meet record, breaking the old record set in both 2000 and 2003. She also knocked more than half a second off the previous record time in the 300m hurdles when she finished in 42.61.
